Writer to the Arts

I’ve been a freelance art historian since I graduated from college in 2012, and I officially launched Alexandra Kiely – Writer to the Arts in 2016. I specialize in research and writing projects, as well as related services such as copyediting, cataloging, transcription of historic documents, and social media. My projects are developed to suit unique users and available on an as-needed basis. My clients typically include individuals and small businesses, such as artists, collectors, appraisers, researchers, auction houses, art galleries, and dealers in fine arts, antiques, history, and collectibles. Hiring me to take care of writing and research projects allows busy art professionals to focus on everything else.

I have written articles for email newsletters; transcribed antique letters and journals; researched various aspects of new or potential acquisitions; copyedited catalogues; provided supplementary material to accompany appraisals; written detailed descriptions of offerings for websites, catalogues, and eBay; sorted, catalogued, and tagged photographic records of collections; written about contemporary artists to promote their gallery shows; and attended numerous fairs and antiques shows.

I’m always on the lookout for interesting new projects with customers all over the world. Take a look at my services and samples of prior projects, then contact me for more details. Pricing depends on the scope and nature of the project. All rates are based on $50 per hour, and may be billed hourly or on a per-project basis.

  1. Hi Scholarly Skater. Nice to meet you and you have a great blog! I am not sure where to go with this but wanted to ask what kind of fees you would charge to help me with an art mystery? I have been trying to help my now deceased cousin find a statue called “The Poems of Peace” by Marcos Coll a Spanish sculptor. I have a 1922 New York Times article where he brought his marble statue to the United States. My cousin has been looking for years but has never been able to find out where it ended up. I do have a small booklet with a description of the statue and some pictures. I am just looking for some guidance on my project and came across your website and you are the first person I contacted. I would appreciate any help you could give me. Sincerely, George Counter

    1. Mr. Counter,
Thanks for contacting me! I would love to hear more about the statue and the project. My email address is AGKiely@gmail.com. Why don’t you email me with some details about the piece and the information you already have about it? Perhaps we can set up a phone conversation as well. I will be able to give you an idea of cost once I have a better idea of the kind of work that’s going to be involved.
      Thanks so much.
