The Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina, was once the home of George Vanderbilt and his family. Now a resort and historic site, it was the main destination of my recent vacation.
On Memorial Day, my mom and I visited Kykuit for a belated Mothers’ Day. Kykuit is the Sleepy Hollow, NY estate of the Rockefeller family. It’s massive and gorgeous, and we had a great time there. The estate is well-known for two things – its gardens and Nelson Rockefeller’s collection of modern art.
I attended a really interesting lecture and exhibition at the Woodmere Art Museum about the work of Violet Oakley. She was a significant Philadelphia-area painter, illustrator, muralist, and designer. Find out what I learned about her life and art.
