It is a wonderful book – beautifully thorough and interesting, with an inclusive tone and accessible writing. … The “food for thought” and “art viewing approach” interjections are helpful features. … And above all, the abstract art section was immensely helpful for me personally

About the author
Alexandra Kiely is an independent art historian whose work focuses on making art understandable to the public. She has a B.A. (with honors) in art history and more than 12 years of experience in the field. In addition to founding A Scholarly Skater Art History, for which she has written about 400 posts and several ebooks on topics from individual artworks to famous styles to museum-visiting advice, she has contributed to DailyArt Magazine, The Collector, the ArtHerstory blog, and more.
Creating independent art viewers
While it doesn’t teach specific facts about art history, The Art Museum Insider teaches its readers to think like art historians, empowering them to analyze art for themselves rather than relying entirely on outside sources to shape their experiences. In addition, the skills and information within this book can be applied to many different types of art and images, rather than focusing exclusively on a small set of European artworks like many other art books.
