This summer, everyone is talking about the Van Gogh's Cypresses exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Just from the name Van Gogh, you know there are going to be huge crowds. Fortunately, however, I was recently able to get in to see the exhibition and had a really nice time.
This is my experience viewing TEFAF Online. This art fair has a little bit of everything, as well as the unique twist of only showing one object per gallery.
I visited the virtual American Art Fair on opening day. What did I think? Can the virtual experience compare to the live one? What artworks caught my eye? Find out here.
The Hyde Collection is a world-class art collection in the unassuming Adirondack town of Glens Falls, New York. It really was the most delightful little surprise, and I had a wonderful visit.
I recently enjoyed an art exhibition at my local library. I saw many wonderful works there, but I noticed that the majority of the pieces I was drawn to were still lives. So I started to think about why that is. Want to enjoy great architecture from your couch? I recently discovered a host of virtual tours of famous works of architecture. How cool is that? While you can never truly experience a place from a computer screen, it's nice to have the option when travelling to the site in person isn't in your schedule (or budget). All of the tours listed are 360° experiences, not just pictures.
On Memorial Day, my mom and I visited Kykuit for a belated Mothers' Day. Kykuit is the Sleepy Hollow, NY estate of the Rockefeller family. It's massive and gorgeous, and we had a great time there. The estate is well-known for two things - its gardens and Nelson Rockefeller's collection of modern art.
My review of a fascinating book, Rogue's Gallery, about the history of art dealers. As it turns out, it's not just the artists who have big personalities, and art dealers have affected art history a lot. A fun and informative book.
A few quick thoughts on Michael Findlay's book Seeing Slowly: Looking at Modern Art, about enjoying modern and contemporary art.
A link to my article about Gustave Klimt's landscape paintings on DailyArt Magazine. Klimt is well known as a modernist and painter of Viennese elites. His landscapes are similar in style but much less commonly known.
